Eltons victory | Posted 2 years, 2 months ago |
| Elton played very well all night showing extremely good discipline holding out for opportunities to take down pots... there were two stand out points of the tournament where Elton made world class decisions. Elton was dealt 10 10 in the small blind, there where 2 limpers then action was round to him.. he had a decision to make should he push his reasonably short stack all in or just call and see what the flop brings? his decision was to flat call only investing half a big blind and he was able to get away from that pot when the flop brought a dreaded Ace saving his chips for another battle. The other tiime i was impressed by his discipline was, Elton was dealt AJ under the gun on a full table and he was able to fold it pre-flop knowing that he would be out of position in the hand if he were to play.. luckily he did fold that hand because after he folded there was an all in and a caller the all in player held 77 and the caller had AQ of hearts the queen came on the turn and sent the player with 77 home..(that single decision to fold AJ preflop saved Eltons tournament life.) After a long battle with only three players remaining finally Al hollows from Gore was sent home in third place and only Elton from invercargill and Andrew (Heapsy) from Balcutha remained to battle it out heads up.. they both knew that this was it one of them was going to play in the 20k Tournament in Sydney and the other was going home with a much smaller cash prize.. so needless to say things started to get serious.. Blinds were huge (5k and 10k) seemed to go backwards and forth like a ball in a game of tennis no one wanted to slip up until.. Heapsy limps from the small blind and Elton decides to raise 30k, Heapsy doesn't take long to think and pushes all in over the top.. Elton thinks for a while then calls but he doesn't look confident as he turns over his KQ of diamonds, and then Heapsy turns over QQ Heapsy is a 3:1 favourate with his Queens going to the flop but luckily for Elton the flop brought two diamonds ad the urn brought another sealing the deal giving Elton the flush and also giving Elton the new chip lead.. some more battling took place before the final hand where Elton raised on the flop with a pair of nines on a board of 93J and Heapsy reraised all in with AQ no A or Q came and Elton came out on top! Well done to Elton.. Now we have to wait till next months final to see who will bee joining him on the next trip to Sydney! Will it be you?? |
